N0-13 The Samurai Residences of Kaseda Fumoto
Kaseda Fumoto was one of 113 divisions of the Satsuma Domain’s unique regional governance system called the “Tojo system.” The Fumoto District where Beppu Castle used to be has retained rows of Japanese houses consisting of samurai residences from the Edo Period, along with buildings constructed after the Meiji Period. The area has also retained channels constructed by the Satsuma Domain during the Edo Period, creating a unique atmosphere.
