N0-5 Bansei Tokko Peace Museum
This museum was built on the Bansei Air Base, known as the “phantom special attack air base,” because it was only used for four months during the final days of the war. Around 200 kamikaze pilots took off from the Imperial Japanese Army’s final air base to protect the mainland. On display at the museum are the remains of Japan’s only Zero reconnaissance seaplane recovered from the ocean off the coast of nearby Fukiage Beach, and various articles and wills left behind by the soldiers, as well as their portraits.
